Acetaminophen Extra Strength Oral Tablets


Acetaminophen Extra Strength Oral is only recommended when the regular doses of Acetaminophen are ineffective. It is prescribed to treat toothache, period pains, arthritis pain, backache, muscular pain, fever and headache. Extra strength Acetaminophen tablets can also be taken to alleviate migraine and pain and loss of function due to joint damage.

Acetaminophen is also used as an active ingredient in many over the counter (OTC) drugs. It is found in Tylenol, Ibuprofen and Aspirin. Extra strength tablets should be taken cautiously and preferably after consulting a doctor as due to their extra strength, there is a possibility that they may harm you.

Suggested Proper Usage of Acetaminophen Extra Strength Oral

Read the labels carefully before taking other pain relievers or cold products to check if they also contain Acetaminophen as it may lead to over dosage.
Acetaminophen is not to be given to children under 3 years of age without your doctor's approval.
There are many brands and forms of Acetaminophen in the market. Before buying read the ‘consumer information’ to know which particular brand will suit you. Also, read the dosing instructions carefully as the amount of Acetaminophen in products may vary.

Some Precautions and Warnings While Taking Acetaminophen Extra Strength Oral

Tell your doctor immediately if any unlikely but very serious side effects like easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat or other signs of infection occur.

If you do not have liver problems, the maximum dose of Acetaminophen for adults is 4 grams per day (4000 milligrams). If you take more than the recommended maximum amount, it may cause serious and possibly fatal liver disease.

Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any symptoms of liver damage such as severe nausea, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain and extreme fatigue.

A very serious allergic reaction to Acetaminophen is possible if you have been taking it for more than 10 days and for a less serious condition. It is better that you take extra strength Acetaminophen after consulting your doctor to get the accurate medicine.

This medicine should not be given to children under 12 years of age as it can cause harmful consequences. Keep it away from your children’s reach to avoid problems.

Harmful Effects of Acetaminophen Extra Strength Oral

Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness and trouble breathing. Other side effects which may result from long term use of Acetaminophen are nausea, stomach pain and lethargy.

Acetaminophen may cause liver damage. Daily use of alcohol, especially when taking Acetaminophen, may increase your risk of liver damage.

Some Rare Side Effects Are:

  • Hepatitis
  • Hepatitis caused by drugs
  • Kidney failure
  • White blood cells in urine
  • Inflammation of skin caused by an allergy
  • Severe lower back pain from impacted kidney stone
  • Anemia
  • Decreased blood platelets
  • Deficiency of Granulocytes, a type of white blood cell

Use of Acetaminophen Extra Strength Oral for Pregnant and Nursing Women

Acetaminophen appears to be safe for use during pregnancy. FDA has rated it in pregnancy category as D for safe consumption. However, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before using it, as long term usage may result in some harmful effects. Use it only if it is needed as these tablets are strong enough to cause serious consequences.

Up till now there have been no results showing the adverse effects of Acetaminophen Extra Strength Oral in nursing mothers. However, it should be used cautiously as it can pass into breast milk.

Use of Acetaminophen Extra Strength Oral should be carried out carefully as it can cause harmful effects in people whose bodies do not accept high doses of Acetaminophen. Proper care is very important in this regard.
