What Is Acne And What Are the Main Causes of Acne
The physical
features of a person matter a great deal many
people. People may go through many processes in
order to make sure that their physical appearance
is prevented the way it is. When people begin
to suffer with conditions of their hair or skin,
they tend over these conditions tremendously,
and eventually go in for therapies that could
solve their problems.
One particular condition that has
many people worried is Acne. This is a condition
that can mark a person’s facial skin severely,
and if it goes to extremes, it can prevent a person
from wanting to socialize, thus having a psychological
effect.
Acne is basically caused by glands in the skin
and is related to hormonal effects. The sebaceous
glands secret an excess amount of sebaceous fluid
though the pores resulting in the skin being damaged.
The pores in the skin get blocked along with lesions
occurring on the skin.
The areas affected by acne include the face,
neck, back, chest and the shoulders. It is known
that the spread of this condition can be severely
disfiguring. However, there are treatments designed
for treating this condition, and it is also helpful
for one to take measures not to aggravate the
condition if it happens to develop.
Acne: The Infection
According to experts Acne develops as a disease
and is said to be caused due to infection of the
pilosebaceous units in the skin. This occurs when
normal processes do not take place. The usual
process that takes place includes sebum from the
sebaceous glands pouring out onto the skin. The
sebum has functions for the skin and hair of the
skin. However, sometimes the pores of the skin
get blocked with a combination of sebum, keratinocytes,
and the skin hair itself.
When sebum cannot flow through the pore of the
skin, bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) builds
up. This bacterium grows and causes the follicles
to swell up. This is what causes the inflamed
condition with some of the [pores opening up.
The reason why some of the pores open is because
they cannot sustain the pressure of the infectious
swelling on the inside. The result is that the
infection comes up on the skin as well.
Acne: The Cause
The exact cause of Acne has not been determined
by experts. However, they know at what time it
is caused and suspect that hormones are responsible
for it. They assert that the male sex hormone
also called androgens are responsible. This does
seem to make a lot sense as well because of the
fact that acne normally starts showing up at around
puberty. At this stage of one’s life or
any stage at which it may occur, fluctuating levels
of hormones would worsen the condition.
It is basically through observation that this
has been determined, and it is said that this
is one of the things that aggravates acne. In
adult women, anywhere between 2 and 7 days prior
to menstruation acne may worsen.
Any tight clothing around the area of infection
may cause aggravation too. The environment as
well plays an immense role in the way acne is
affected. This is because pollutants and humidity
tend to irritate the condition. Physical interference
with the infected region may be painful and may
also worsen the condition. This is why those infected
are advised not to scrub or scratch the infected
area.
In most cases of Acne, people should see a doctor. Prolonged conditions
could result in permanent scarring of the infected
areas. There are acne
treatments for the condition and time should
not be wasted.
