Which
Segment of the Population is most Prone to Acne and
Why
There
are several conditions that affect people during
some parts of their lives. The reason why people
at particular ages are affected by particular
conditions is due to the fact that at different
ages one’s hormonal levels change.
In the case of youngsters, it must
be asserted that their levels of hormones are
likely to fluctuate. In the case of girls, this
chance is even more because of the menstruation
process that begins at puberty. However, young
girls are not the only ones to be affected by
conditions such as Acne, as boys too suffer with
it.
Acne is a condition that can affect any age group,
but is also known to largely impact people during
and after puberty. This is because of the level
of hormones in their bodies at that age. It is
known that people between the ages of 12 and 25
are the ones to suffer mostly. It is estimated
that 80 % or more adolescents suffer from acne.
This is because of the fact that
at this stage in their lives hormonal levels surge
and may even fluctuate.
The main cause of acne in this portion
of the population is thought to be because of
the androgens in the body. Both males and females
have particular levels of them. Though this is
known, it cannot be asserted for sure what the
exact cause of acne is. Experts believe that there
is a strong relation between the level of hormones
and acne, but they have not been able to trace
it out yet. However, treatment has had its level
of success.
The treatments used have basically
been ones that focus on cleansing the skin. This
is because of the blockage that takes place in
the skin when the pores are jammed. The condition
usually causes blockage of the pores, which have
to be cleaned up if the condition is to diminish.
Also, with the blockage there is
also severe infection that has to be cured. The
infection takes place due to the fact that sebum
cannot escape from the pores. The mixture of sebum,
bacteria and the skin hair itself causes the infection.
The infection leads to swelling of the region,
and some of these swellings eventually push the
skin open. This is when the ghastly infection
in its liquid form becomes visible.
Acne can cause severe scarring, and
this is why one will come across people with scars
and marks on their faces and necks. Acne is known
to spread over one’s face, neck, back, chest
and shoulders, leaving scars in its severest forms.
For some people, treatment is effective.
However, there are other people on
which treatment may not be effective, and they
have to be very careful so that they avoid conditions
that aggravate acne. There is a list of precautionary
measures that one may take, and these all certainly
apply mostly to people between the ages of 12
and 25, as they are the ones that tend to suffer
with the condition most.
Finally, it should be remembered
that research into this condition still continues,
and though treatments are significantly successful
there will be more remedies for acne in time to
come.
