Drug Abuse: A Vicious Cycle
Though
the genetically inherited characteristic
of a person determines most of the aspects
of an individuals personality, however,
the environment in which an individual is
brought up and various other factors also
influence the over all making of the personality
of that very individual.
So men are not born with the
habits to behave in such a manner that not
only harms them but also disturbs the social
peace of the society. Therefore, the environment
and the various family situations along
the inherited characteristic play a very
important role in determining the behaviors
and actions of an individual.
Life is not always same; it keeps on changing
from time to time where the mental and emotional
temperament of an individual seeks escape
from these tensions and painful situations
of life. Therefore, many individuals who
are emotionally weak opt for substitutions
that can make them feel relax at least for
some time so they can ignore such things
that really matter to them but at the same
time hurt them.
Subsitute
Addictions
Such substitutions are generally drugs,
smoking and the use of alcohol. On the other
hand, young children and teenagers get trapped
into drugs and such vicious elements due
to their immature psychology and physical
as well as emotional frustration.
These teenagers either out of the family
environment or due to the influence taken
from the very environment or due to some
physical frustration, which they undergo
during their physical growth when human
body undergoes various hormonal changes.
These physical and hormonal changes basically
evoke sexual desires that many teenagers
are not able to understand. However, the
various channels promoting different images
regarding sexuality negatively impacts these
teenagers as they are not yet mature and
do not understand the uses and abuses of
sexuality.
Therefore, either they start some physical
activities or starts drugs, smoking or alcohol
to attract opposite genders towards sexuality.
They basically believe that such actions
not only will give them a mature look but
also a sexy appearance and help them relax
emotionally for some time. However, with
the passage of time, these teenagers get
use to of these drugs and make them a habit,
which eventually leads to addiction.
Therefore, drugs basically abuse human
psychology and emotions as well as results
into tremendous physical disasters. In order
to understand the vicious cycle of drug
abuse, we briefly need to look for some
examples of drug abuses that leads to addictions.
Basically nicotine, which is present in
almost more then four thousand chemicals,
is the root cause of addition. It is a very
highly addictive drug, which directly affects
the brain and harms the smoker individually.
Smoking
Responsible For 30% Of All Cancer Deaths
According to a research by Dr Carl J Brandt,
which is reviewed by Dr. Gavin Petrie, a
consultant Chest physician in U.K and many
researches conducted at various national
as well as foreign medical research institutes
including the NGO's, Cigarettes contain
more than 4000 chemical compounds and around
400 toxic substances including tobacco,
which as a result produces various poisons
in the human body.
According to the Canadian Cancer Society,
smoking is responsible for 30% of all cancer
deaths and is related to more than 85% of
lung cancer cases. However at the same time
all the people do not react equally to the
4,000 chemicals contained in cigarette smoke.
People react differently depending upon
there genetically and biological make up.
At the same time the risk of lung cancer
increases sharply depending upon how much
and how long the smoker smokes. According
to the Canadian Cancer Statistics 2003,
the ratio to develop lung cancer in men
is 1:11 and in women is 1:18.
Another research report of the Canadian
Cancer Society gives us the percentage of
people dying from coronary heart disease;
the percentage of smokers is 70% greater
then the non-smokers. However, people who
are younger then 65, 45% men are captured
by the coronary heart disease while in women
40% are at the risk of dying via coronary
heart disease.
Therefore, the vicious cycle of drug abuse
basically does not start from the first
day to use but many important psychological
as well as environmental factors. However,
in this era of modernization and globalization,
media can play a very positive role in shaping
the very psychology of teenagers by educating
them about the hazards of drugs and various
addictions, which are caused due to the
vicious cycle of drug abuse.
Media should produce such programs that
make the after effects and drug abuses very
transparent not only to the American generation
but to the world at large, making it a priority
like other humanitarian concerns.
On the other hand, families and educational
institutes as well as professional environment
can also play a very positive role in eliminating
drug abuse from the society. Though it is
not an easy task but slow and steady it
can help saving, if not the present generation
but the future generation from the immense
repercussions of the vicious
cycle of drug abuse. |
