Is ADHD A Sign of Retardation

There are several conditions and disorders that are being discovered up till now. Some of these disorders had previously been misdiagnosed. This was because of the fact that some disorders and dysfunctions have similar symptoms and without proper equipment and methods it was difficult to diagnose them correctly.

Thus, at first observation, one cannot really say what problem an individual has. The only way to determine any disorder is to properly observe the person concerned and review progress reports. Interviewing in some cases has also proven successful.

In addition to these, there are various strategies that may be employed. However, ADHD is one such condition in children and adults that does not take very long to diagnose. This is because of the fact that it is fairly obvious when a person has problems focusing on their work. In schools of course, students need to be observed more carefully just in case they are simply naughty and really are capable of learning and focusing without medication and help.

Comparison between ADHD and Retardation

ADHD is a condition in which a child fails to concentrate for long periods of time. These children find it hard to sit for long at one place, as they feel the urge to move around constantly. If they do not have much of an urge to move physically, then they may manifest their attention deficit in the form of simply not being able to concentrate while sitting before a teacher.

It is clearly asserted that if the same students had to sit and focus on their work, they would progress as well as any student. This means that these types of students or other people suffering from ADHD are ones that are perfectly normal and no where near to being retarded.

If people with ADHD were retarded, they would not be able to attempt the same tasks that are assigned to others. It must be asserted that the same tasks are assigned to them under treatment in the form of shorter assignments. In this way, people with ADHD are able to attempt tasks that are equally complex, but have shorter time-frames.

ADHD is a condition in spite of which, children and adults are able to lead thoroughly normal lives. It must be asserted that there are many people in our everyday lives suffering with ADHD and we may not even know it.

This is because of the fact that they are absolutely normal and physically and mentally fit. The only problem that they do have is that they cannot focus too long on whatever tasks they are given.

People with ADHD simply lack the ability to concentrate on what everyone else is doing and that is when one gets a hint of the problem. If it is not treated, students may lose interest in what they are doing and may be left behind. This condition will go on affecting everything that a person does and de-motivate them. This is why it is so dangerous and needs to be controlled in the beginning to avoid a full fledge disorder.

It has been known that people have misunderstood ADHD. They simply thought that children are either retarded or simply do not want to study. Some times students were beaten up because they could not accomplish their tasks. This caused the ruin of many lives.
