ADD/ADHD Can Be Controlled With The Right Treatment
There
are many conditions especially in children that
are often misunderstood. Many people’s lives
are ruined because of the fact that people do
not see these problems for what they are and didn't’t
know they can be cured.
The unawareness of particular problems
that was so common is now being corrected or at
least controlled. Awareness for many curable conditions
is being spread now, and because of this awareness
in recent years many people’s lives are
being put o the right track. One such condition
that is well known is Attention
Deficit Disorder (ADHD).
ADHD
This is a condition in many children and adults
too in which they cannot maintain their concentration.
They lack the ability to focus on what everyone
else is doing, and as a result they are left behind
the rest of their competitors. Often, in class,
students suffering with ADHD are unable to focus
and also disturb others around them.
This is where school authorities and teachers
had made major mistakes. They thought that these
types of children are either purposely disturbing
the class or they are incapable of being regular
learners.
They assumed that these children had learning
problems or were mentally retarded grow common.
However, today there are treatments for these
types of children, and teachers specialized in
dealing with these kinds of students.
Treatments For
ADHD
There are few treatments for people suffering
with ADHD, and these have their levels of success.
The most commonly used treatments include the
medical ones in the form of pills.
These are all basically different forms of a
single drug used to treat ADHD, called methylphenidate.
There are various types of actions that can be
caused by each of the pills.
Among the ADHD pills are Ritalin and Focalin,
which have a lasting effect on the person for
3-5 hrs. Ritalin is one of the most commonly used
ones. There have been some objections to its use
by few researchers, but it is still a successful
treatment in most cases.
In addition to short-acting Ritalin, there is
Ritalin SR that acts for a period of anywhere
between 3-8 hrs. In addition to this, there are
also other drugs such as Metadate ER, and Methylin
ER, which last for the same period.
In addition to this, there are longer-acting
pills as well such as Concerta, Ritalin LA and
Metadate CD. These are known to have effects for
as many as 8-12 hrs, and can be used just once
a day.
Counseling
In addition to these drugs there are others that
are also known to be successful. In spite of the
success that these drugs have had with ADHD people,
it must be asserted that it should be accompanied
by counseling in order to produce better results.
Some researchers insist that drugs should not
be used because of the possible side effects that
may occur in the long run.
They believe that therapy is best solution to
the problem. However, in order to produce the
best results in quick time, medication as well
as therapy is required.
Teaching ADHD
Students
Aside from the medication and therapy that ADHD
people need, when they are in the process of learning
it must be said that particular steps also need
to be taken in order to ease their work. Strategies
to keep such students away from distraction are
implemented.
Children with ADHD are usually kept right in
front of the teacher and are often given shorter
tasks to complete. These are normally increased
in terms of duration in order to help them pick
up mental stamina and better focus. |
