Breathe Free with Albuterol
Why is This Medication
Prescribed?
Albuterol is ranked as one of the best drugs to
prevent and treat wheezing, shortness of breath
and troubled breathing caused by asthma, chronic
bronchitis, emphysema and other lung diseases.
Albuterol inhalation is also used to prevent breathing
difficulties or bronchospasm during exercise.
Albuterol belongs to a class of medications called
beta-agonists and works best by relaxing and opening
air passages in the lungs, making it easier to
breathe.
In How Many Forms is Albuterol
Available?
Albuterol comes in these various different forms
for easy intake such as
- Tablets
- Extended-release or long-acting tablets
- Oral syrup
- Aerosol, a solution
- A powder-filled capsule to be inhaled by
mouth
How Should
Albuterol Doses be Taken?
To inhale the solution, a nebulizer is used. The
power-filled capsules are inhaled using a special
dry powder inhaler.
Albuterol tablets and syrup are usually taken
three or four times a day while the extended-release
tablets are usually taken twice a day.
For the treatment or prevention of asthma symptoms,
the oral inhalation is usually used every 4 to
6 hours as needed.
To prevent bronchospasm during exercise, the oral
inhalation is used 15 minutes before exercise.
The nebulized solution is used three or four times
a day.
What is the Best Way to Use
Albuterol?
The extended-release tablets should only be swallowed
as whole. They should not be crushed or split
or chewed as they are formulated to release slowly
in the body.
Albuterol is only helpful in controlling the symptoms
of asthma and other lung diseases, but it does
not cure them. Thus, it is imperative that you
do not stop the use of Albuterol unless advised
by your doctor to do so.
If you are using the Albuterol inhaler for the
first time, read the enclosed instructions carefully.
It is always better that you practice your first
inhalation in front of your doctor to make sure
that you understand how it works.
If you have not used your inhaler for more than
4 weeks, test. Spray the inhaler before using.
Do this by spraying 4 times into the air so that
if anything is wrong with the spray, it can be
detected.
In order to make the best use of Albuterol, it
is recommended that you follow the directions
on the information leaflet and ask your doctor
for any questions which you do not understand.
Albuterol is intended to assist you in breathing
and relieve any problems regarding inhalation.
However, it is of vital importance that it is
used properly. |
