Can Allergies Be Prevented or Can They Only Be Treated
For almost all allergic
reactions there are cures and preventive measures.
There are only few allergies that cannot be treated
or prevented. However, most allergies can be treated
and prevented, and if one looks at the common
allergies, it can be seen that they all have treatments
and preventive measures as well. The following
is interesting in revealing the preventions that
one may take in order to avoid getting some common
allergies.
ASTHMA:
Asthma to begin with is such an immuno-disorder
that can actually be prevented by:
- Avoiding dusty environments: It is recommended that one should clean dusty environments with a wet cloth, as this prevents
dust flying about. This should be done once
a week.
- Wearing
a dust mask: This is especially
important for one as it helps reduce the level
of exposure to dust as well as cleaning agents.
- Using
hot water or electric heaters: It is
also recommended rather than using systems that
blow warm air. This makes a considerable difference
as irritation is greatly reduced this was.
- Lowering the
number of stuffed animals, old flowers and other items that collect dust;
when these items collect dust they become a
source of dust as well.
- Hanging up
lighter curtains rather than heavy drapes: As opposed to using light drapes that can be
taken down and washed frequently, drapes are
heavy and collect a large amount of dust. Similarly,
instead of using heavy carpets that are inconvenient
to remove, it is recommended that one use lighter
rugs or leave the flooring as it is.
Food Allergies:
In addition to having allergies such as asthma
that can be prevented through the above points,
there are also allergies of food. These may be
prevented through:
- Knowing
what affects a person: In the
future, one will be able to avoid the allergy-giving
foods.
- Consulting
a doctor regarding the back
up use of an epinephrine injector. This might
help when one is exposed to foods tat cause
allergies.
- Making reading
of food labels a practice.
- Asking about
ingredients in foods when eating out.
Pet Allergies:
Other allergies caused by pets can also be prevented
through:
- Getting
rid of pets: This is the most
suitable thing to do in order to make sure that
one is away from the cause of allergy altogether.
If one cannot get rid of pets then the next
step is to at least keep them out of the bedroom
and away from carpeted areas and upholstery.
This is because these areas are likely to grip
fur and anything else that may fall of an animal.
- Using a dust mask: When cleaning around an animal
- Washing Hands and
Cleaning One’s Clothes in
order to get rid of all pet allergens.
- Refraining
from animal litter in soiled
cages
Pollen Allergies:
Pollen allergy may be prevented through:
- Avoiding the outdoors between 5 and 10 in
the morning. It is recommended that one come
outdoors in the latter part of the afternoon
if possible, as pollen level is much lower then.
- Keeping windows of cars and homes shut in
order to avoid pollen flying in the air.
- Not using window fans, as it sucks in pollen
and other allergens.
- Avoiding pets, as they may carry pollen and
other allergens.
- Drying clothes indoors in order to avoid pollen
clinging to it.
There are other preventive methods and allergy
treatments aside from the above mentioned
ones. However, these are the important ones to
follow.
