Bontril - Basic Concepts Of Use
Bontril is a medicine that is used to reduce
weight. There is a great need to exercise
caution when phendimetrazine tartrate is prescribed
even under mild conditions such as mild hypertension.
There is a chance that the hypotensive effect
of guanethidine is decreased due to phendimetrazine
tartrate.
Alteration in insulin requirements
among patients with diabetes mellitus may occur
when it is used in association with phendimetrazine
tartrate and hence the associated dietary process
is also altered.
It is necessary to prescribe the
least amount of the drug at one time so that the
chances of over dosage become minimized. There
is no evidence of the safe use of this drug during
pregnancy. It is advised that phendimetrazine
tartrate is not given to women who are pregnant
or are planning to become pregnant unless more
information is available about the use of this
drug for pregnant women.
There may be a chance of using the
drug by pregnant women only in the case when the
possible hazards are outweighed by the potential
benefits of the drug.
It is highly advised not to prescribe this drug
to the children that are younger than 12 years
of age.
Some adverse reactions may occur due to the use
of this drug such as cardiovascular problems such
as tachycardia, palpitation and increased blood
pressure; central nervous system problems such
as restlessness, insomnia, headache, agitation,
sweating, over stimulation, dizziness, tremor,
rarely psychotic episodes at recommended doses,
flushing and blurring of vision; gastrointestinal
problems such as diarrhea, nausea, dryness of
the mouth, constipation and stomach pain; genitourinary
problems such as urinary frequency, changes in
libido and dysuria. |
