The Most Common Cancers In Adults
Different types of cells compose the body. These cells follow a normal
pattern in which first they grow, then divide
and at last they die. This is their normal phenomenon.
But sometimes, some abnormal patterns are found in which these cells change them and
start growing. They begin to divide so quickly
that is not found in the normal cells. Then these
abnormal cells do not die. They combine with each
other and form tumors. These tumors can be harmless
or harmful.
If they are harmful they are cancerous in nature and are known as malignant. These malignant
cells spread throughout the body and works to
destroy the healthy tissues of the body. As these
tumors contain cancer cells, these cancer cells
grow and spread in the body and give rise to the
formation of new tumors in other parts of the
body. The non cancerous tumors do not spread through
out the body.
All cancer cells are abnormal cells and they grow out of control. These abnormal cells
give rise to different types of cancer. The type
of cancer is dependent on the place where these
abnormal cells first began to grow. Adults may suffer from different types of
cancers that include lung cancer, rectal cancer,
endometrial cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer,
colon cancer, breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
These types of cancers that are
commonly found among adults are described below:
Skin Cancer
The most common form of cancer found in adults
is skin cancer. This type of cancer is the most
curable. Skin cancer is of two types. One type
is called melanoma. In this type, the cancer is
found to be in its very serious form but this
type of skin cancer is not commonly found. Another
type of skin cancer is called non melanoma. In
this type, the cancer is in its most treatable
form and it is the most commonly found type of
skin cancer. Both types of skin cancers result
from too much exposure of a body to ultraviolet
light. Ultraviolet light comes from sunlight and
from the lights that are used in tanning salons.
Lung Cancer
Lung cancer found in adults is of two types. One
type contains non small cells and the second type
contains small cells. The most common type of
lung cancer contains non small cells. These cells
do not grow and spread in the body very quickly.
Smoking results in the small cell lung cancer.
The most common risk factor for the occurrence
of lung cancer is cigarette smoking. If a person
smoke, there is a need to consult a doctor to
find out the way to get rid of that habit to kick
off the chances of lung cancers.
Rectal Cancer
& Colon Cancer
The large intestine is called colon. The growth
of malignant in this area gives rise to colon
cancer. The end of the large intestine that is
closest to the anus is called rectum. The growth
of malignant cells in this area gives rise to
rectal cancer. Both, rectal and colon cancers
have nearly the same features and that is why
they are sometimes referred together as colorectal
cancer.
First a polyp is appeared in these
cancers. When this polyp grows, it can give rise
to cancer. If a person is complaining about blood
in stool or in the toilet after that person has
a bowel movement, or the shape of stool is changing,
or lower stomach is experiencing cramps then one
should go to the doctor and discuss about these
symptoms.
Breast Cancer
When some of the breast tissues grow out of control
and form tumor, breast
cancer can be a result. Most of the tumors
that are produced in the breast are not cancerous.
They are just benign. If these tumors are cancerous,
they do not spread to different other parts of
the body. For this reason, breast cancer is said
to be almost completely curable cancer. Breast
cancer can be very dangerous if it spreads to
other parts of the body. Breast cancer is the
second most occurring cancer among women.
Endometrial Cancer
Endometrial cancer is resulted from the lining
of the uterus. This type of cancer is most commonly
found in women in which menopause has been passed.
The sign of the beginning of this cancer is the
bleeding from vagina specially after menopause.
Ovarian Cancer
This type of cancer can occur in both or any of
the ovaries. Tumors can grow on or inside the
ovaries. These tumors can be benign or malignant.
Unfortunately, it is very hard to detect ovarian
cancer in early stage.
Prostate
Cancer
Prostate gland is the site where prostate cancer
beings. Women do not suffer from this cancer.
Prostate glands are present in front of the rectum
just below the bladder. Either the prostate cancer
will grow very slowly and will not spread throughout
the body or it will grow quickly and will spread
in all t he parts of the body. It is found that
nearly 75 % of prostate cancer contains slow growing
type. |
