Causes Of Cerebral Palsy
The
cause of Cerebral Palsy is unknown. The prior
statement means that the causes of Cerebral
Palsy are unknown as to what could have triggered
this condition. The fact that is known is that
Cerebral Palsy is more common in babies that
are born prematurely. Some of the indications
of this condition is when a baby:
- Does not cry within the first five minutes
of being born
- Needs of a ventilator for more than four
weeks
- Bleeds in the brain
These are not the only symptoms of Cerebral
Palsy. Cerebral Palsy can also be determined
in the case of a baby being malformed in areas
such as the kidneys, heart or spine. The risk
is further increased when the baby is prone
to seizures.
When a baby is said to have the condition of
Cerebral Palsy, most of the parents feel responsible
for this condition. Cerebral Palsy cannot be
diagnosed in the early stages of gestation,
even with the sophisticated machines available
today.
Parents also feel very sad upon hearing the
news that their child is suffering from the
condition of Cerebral Palsy. However, parents
should know that birth defects also occur with
those who follow the physician’s advice
exactly as ordered. So, sometimes these things
are difficult to prevent even with the best
of care.
The causes of birth defects are not known either.
However, it is known that the developing brain
can be affected in a number of ways. Some of
the factors that might be responsible for this
include:
- The fetus being exposed to chemicals or
infections
- Inhaling of cigarettes
- Usage of cocaine or crack
- Treatment of Rubella by immunization
- Toxoplasmosis can be avoided by not handling
cat fecal matter and raw meat
Cerebral Palsy can also be caused by human
immunodeficiency virus or HIV (the virus which
causes AIDS). Majority of the cases though report
of metal retardation in the child rather than
Cerebral Palsy. Since we have been talking so
much about babies who are underweight, one should
know what exactly is underweight. Under weight
babies are all those who weigh less than fifteen
hundred pounds; that is three pounds are likely
to incur Cerebral Palsy.
Cerebral Palsy is usually caused when the child
suffers from bleeding within the brain. This
condition is commonly known as intraventricular
hemorrhages, intracranial hemorrhages. The bleeding
in the brain causes a dysfunction in the brain
that controls motor functions. Cerebral Palsy
can also be caused when the bleeding in the
brain destroys brain tissues. This condition
is also known as periventricular leukomalacia. |
