Cerebral Palsy In Newborn Babies
Most
infants who suffer from Cerebral Palsy have
what is known as a congenital distortion in
the brain. What this means is that although
the problem did not occur during the process
of gestation, these malformations are often
missed by physicians as no one knows how these
are caused. Even with today’s advancements
in medicine, no one can be sure with what malformations
a child is going to be born with. Usually, when
a case of Cerebral Palsy is identified it is
associated with malformation. Usually, when
this is the case the parents of the child are
left with a guilty conscience.
Although during the pregnancy, good care has
to be taken so that the safety of the child
is ensured; even with all precautions one still
may have a case of Cerebral Palsy. With the
causes unknown, we can still assert that the
problem of brain malformation is related to
the fetus being exposed to certain chemicals
and infections by the nursing mother. In rare
cases, if the mother suffers from physical trauma,
the brain can be upset and result in the child
developing cerebral palsy.
A last known related factor to Cerebral palsy
in newborn babies is when babies are prematurely
born. One of the commonly known dangers of brain
damage is exposure to alcohol. The syndrome
of Fetal Alcohol is also considered to be one
of the high risk factors that can lead a child
to this condition. This syndrome describes a
mother that takes too much alcohol during her
pregnancy period. When the fetus is exposed
to alcohol, neurological damage may occur. Cigarette
usage should be completely banned, as this causes
babies to be born underweight.
Neurological problems may also be caused when
mothers suffer from malnutrition. This is why
the use of cocaine and crack should be eliminated
when you are pregnant. The use of these intoxicants
is often the reason why the dysfunction of Cerebral
palsy is persistent in babies.
Cerebral palsy in new born babies normally
begins with internal bleeding in the infant’s
brain. The bleeding in the brain is normally
the cause of damage to the area of motor functions
in the brain. This damage makes it difficult
for a child to handle everyday tasks. The bleeding
becomes dangerous when brain tissues are infected.
When the brain tissues are damaged it is called
periventricular leukomalacia.
Some parents who are find out about Cerebral
palsy in new born babies, many a time ask whether
pre-maturity are more prone to Cerebral palsy?
The answer quite frankly is that no one knows
for sure. |
