Healthy Ways to Diet and Lose Weight

Dieting is cutting down on excessive food and eating only what is good for your body to maintain an ideal weight. People, who are overweight, need to diet and lose weight to remain healthy and fit. However, dieting should be done in a way that not only helps in losing weight but also maintains a steady intake of nutrients necessary for the body.

There are numerous healthy ways to diet and lose weight.  The best way is to slowly reduce the amount of food you eat. By going cold turkey on a diet, you only increase your cravings for the foods you desire. Also, diets are a short term weight loss solutions. They do not work forever; you need to eat properly sometime.

Some Healthy Ways to Diet and Lose Wight

To remain healthy and fit, it is recommended that you adopt a healthy way of dieting and loosing weight. Here we have some of these healthy ways:

Reduce Excessive Fat you consume

Cut down fatty foods, eat less meat and incorporate more vegetables in your diet. Reduce the amount of butter and use low fat butter instead. Cut back on your fat intake in small steps as fat keeps us feeling full longer and takes more time to digest. Eat more natural fats from dairy products, poultry and lean meats. Bake, barbecue, broil or sauté your food instead of frying it. Remember that fats are necessary parts of a healthy diet, so do not completely eliminate them from your diet.

By changing your eating habit steadily, you can lose weight easily without depriving yourself of the things you love to eat.

Increase your Fiber Intake

Increasing the amount of fiber-rich foods in your diet is very important, as it aids in good digestion and helps curb hunger pangs. Fiber also reduces the risk for cancer. The recommended intake of fiber is between 25-35 grams a day. Whole grain bread, whole grain rice and cereals, beans, lentils, vegetables and fruits are all rich in fiber. By eating fiber foods, one feels full longer as it takes long to break down in the body. The longer we chew our food, the fuller we feel and lesser we eat.

Regular Physical Exercise

The best way to lose weight is by regular exercise. Regular exercise not only maintains your weight but keeps off the extra pounds as well. By exercising, you stimulate your body’s metabolism that helps to burn calories faster. Regular exercise should be done for at least 30 minutes a day 4-5 times a week.

As it is difficult to immediately start exercising all of a sudden, start slow by picking activities that you enjoy, like dancing or swimming or walking.

Cut back on after Dinner Snacks

Many people enjoy a snack after dinner or before bed time. This is a bad habit as whatever you eat before sleeping, remains in your system and gets converted into fats. To break this habit, try going to sleep earlier or read in bed and remind yourself that you ate dinner only a few hours earlier. This is a healthy way to diet and lose weight by cutting down excessive eating.

Avoid drinking Sweet Beverages

Avoid colas and soda, as they are full of sugar. When you are feeling thirsty, go for a glass of water instead of a soda, water is more thirst quenching plus it has absolutely no calories. Drink water with all your meals and snacks. Instead of having a glass of juice, eat a fruit as it is more nutritious.

Eat Slowly

Take your time to relax and enjoy the food you are eating. Not only the food will be tastier but you will also feel full at the end of meal. People who eat quickly usually feel unsatisfied. They feel as they have not eaten enough and as a result, want to eat more.

The healthiest way to diet and lose weight is neither crash diets nor bursts of exercise. The body likes slow changes in terms of food and exercise. These changes need to be made slowly so that your body can adapt your changed life style and show the desired results.
