Medical Glossary 'I'

Infertility
Incapable of or unsuccessful in achieving pregnancy over a considerable period of time (as a year) in spite of determined attempts by heterosexual intercourse without contraception
IUD
Intrauterine device, a device (as a spiral of plastic or a ring of stainless steel) inserted and left in the female uterus to prevent effective conception, also called IUCD, IUD
Impotence
An abnormal physical or psychological state of a male characterized by inability to copulate because of failure to have or maintain an erection -- called also erectile dysfunction
Iron
An element vital to biological processes such as transportation of oxygen in the body, found in meats and fruits
Insomnia
An inability to sleep in the night, can be a temporary phase or a chronic ailment

Yellow discoloration of the skin and eyes caused by the buildup of bile in the blood, accompanied by fever and other symptoms, can be dangerous if not treated properly.
Joint
The joining of two or more bones. In general, joints allow flexibility and mobility due to presence of a jelly like substance called cartilage.
