Psychological Effects Of Hair Loss
Generally, individuals
who care about their appearance and outlook do
so because they need to feel confident. The way
that they dress and walk is also very important
to them. In addition to this, a major part of
their attire includes their hair do. In other
words it is their hair that also matters to them, and so, it is with
this as well that they feel confident.
When such individuals begin to lose
hair or find that their hair is not what it used
to be they can get quite depressed. People tend
to suffer greatly as a result of this depression
as they no longer want to present themselves.
Perhaps the worst part about losing hair is that
people feel that it is something that goes way
out of their control. This is something that really
demoralizes them, especially when they try their
best to prevent it using traditional methods that
have had no real impact.
Some people may even lose interest
in themselves accepting hair
loss as a part of life, and as a result they
end up doing nothing about it. In this day an
age it is a shame because of the alternatives
that are available. At the very least, one can
prevent his or her hair condition from worsening
before it is all lost.
In addition to mentioning people
who are greatly impacted when they lose hair,
there are those who really take it lightly and
believe that it is a sign of maturity. There are
indeed people who are proud to lose hair, as it
gives them an air of seniority. However, the fact
remains that there is always something that can
be done about hair loss and hair thinning these
days.
Since there is much research into
figuring out solutions to hair loss there is little
attention paid to the psychological aspects of
it. However, preliminary studies are being conducted
that will hopefully enhance what is already known.
It is through preliminary tests
conducted that it can be said that there is significant
pre-occupation, stress, etc. in individuals who
demonstrate signs of hair loss. It has also been
determined that the more hair one loses the greater
his or her stress is. This can be said because
of the fact that people with more hair loss demonstrated
greater signs of stress. In addition to this,
younger people who apparently suffered early hair
loss also demonstrated a significant amount of
stress.
It is also said that balding significantly
affects one’s body-image, and so people
who are younger tend to be more severely affected
with hair loss in terms of the stress they face.
Further, it can be said that most men do not desire
hair loss because they believe it reduces the
impact of their personality. However, it can be
said that this is in contrast to few men who believe
hair loss to be a sign of maturity. |
