Use Of Propecia and Its Advantages In Hair Loss For Men
For some
men, losing hair is a psychological problem. Many
lose interest in themselves as a result and longer
wish to look into other aspects of their appearance;
they simply come to reluctantly accept hair loss
as inevitable.
This of course should not be the
case with the kind of prescription drugs now available
today. Research has taken the hair loss issue
quite far and products with different levels of
success have been manufactured. Each of these
products has its own advantages, and Propecia
is an example.
Propecia, a prescription drug approved
by the FDA in 1997, is one remedy fro hair loss.
It’s primary known advantage is that it
curtails hair loss in areas of the scalp such
as the crown and top of the head of males. T is
also known to reduce or curtail hair loss on the
front line of a male’s head.
The success of hair loss reduction
is lauded, as a great many claim that hair loss
was significantly reduced. In some cases, after
using the drug for a prolonged period, hair began
to grow back. However, this is debated, and it
is said that not all people would experience the
same benefit.
For the time being at least hair
loss prevention is something that is confirmed
with a majority of males under this treatment
benefiting. Hair re-growth on the other hand is
believed to also be significant; some studies
reveal a significant number of people actually
growing back their hair.
On the surface, this is what one
experiences. Under all these visible changes is
the action of Propecia through which it tackles
the main cause of hair loss. Propecia directly
targets an enzyme that is chiefly responsible
for hair loss. This enzyme is known as ‘5
alpha-Reductase’; it acts on testosterone
and converts it into DHT. In turn, DHT is responsible
for the hair loss that one experiences, as it
acts upon the hair follicles.
One particular ingredient of Propecia
is Saw Palmetto. This is a multi-site inhibitor
of DHT, and manages to block up to 50% of the
DHT binding processes. It is believed that this
ingredient along with Vitamin B6 and element Zinc
is effective in reducing DHT activity.
The impact of the ingredients as
described here are visible in the form of men
who have had success with Propecia.
It is estimated that around 65% men who have been
treated using Propecia managed to grow hair back.
This is in contrast to those who have used placebo,
and ended up losing hair over the same period.
Men who were treated with Placebo
initially and then were switched to Propecia do
not manage reach the same hair loss prevention
and growth as others who have only been treated
with Propecia. This is an assessment over a five
year period.
Since Propecia is supposed to be given at least
a one-year period to take effect it is also suggested
that after one year if there is no apparent benefit
its use should be discontinued.
Discontinuing the drug within a year could lead
to hair loss. This is a small warning just in
case the drug does not have a positive impact
on any particular male.
However, with the success rate that has been
achieved, the average man should be able to benefit
from Propecia within the first few months. The
chief objective at the initial stages is that
hair loss should be curtailed.
If this is successful then an individual probably
has better chances of growing hair back as well
in the coming months. In other words, hair loss
reduction during the first few months is encouraging
because it is a good sign for hair re-growth. |
