Lifestyle Can Lead To Heartburn


Heartburn can be avoided by bringing some changes in the lifestyle. If the heartburn is caused by your erratic lifestyle, a change will definitely be needed to bring improvement in heartburn. A change cannot be brought rapidly but gradually things can be worked out.

When the esophageal pipe that helps pass the food in the stomach does not close properly after the food has reached the stomach and the stomach acid travels back to the esophagus, heartburn is experienced. The esophagus is not protected by the lining that protects the stomach from the acid, which helps in the digestion of food. There may be many reasons which cause heartburn, lifestyle being one of the reasons.

In the world of today where everyone is on going faster and faster, our lifestyle is mainly affected and this causes various problems and diseases. If we are talking about heartburn, it is also a result of our hectic and busy life style in which we do not care much about our health and as a result face different problems.

Certain Lifestyles That Cause Heartburn

If heartburn is the problem, certain lifestyle habits can be responsible for it:

Diet

Foods full of grease and oil cause heartburn as they take time in digestion and this leads to presence of stomach acid for long times. Drinks such as alcohol or coffee should be taken in a moderate amount. Citrus fruits such as grape fruits and tomato lead to acid production in the stomach. Foods full of acid such as vinegar, garlic and onion cause heartburn.

Reasonable Weight

People who are over weight experience frequent heartburn. Due to fats accumulated in the body, it takes time for the normal amount of the stomach acid to digest the food and thus more acid has to be produced in order to help in digestion and it leads to heartburn.

Restricted Clothing

Too much fitted and restricted clothing can cause heartburn as the stomach muscles are clenched and allow the acid to flow out. Even during the exercise, loose fitting clothes should be worn that will keep the body relaxed.

Sleeping Habits

Never rest your head on a flat surface as lying flat will prompt the flow of acid from the stomach to other parts and thus leading to heartburn. Food should be taken some hours before going to bed as sleeping with full stomach can lead to heartburn.

Smoking

Smoking can also provoke heartburn, nicotine and tobacco are harmful agents and they can cause the flow of acid into esophagus as they lead to production of acid.

The lifestyle that includes all the factors included above can lead to heartburn. In order to avoid heartburn, certain changes in lifestyle have to be made.
