Interference Of Drugs When Taking Lipitor
It is important to
make a note of what other drugs can interfere
with Lipitor usage.
One should talk to the
doctor if s/he is taking any of the following:
- cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral);
- gemfibrozil (Lopid);
- niacin (Nicolar, Nicobid, Nicotinex, others);
- clarithromycin (Biaxin);
- erythromycin (E-Mycin, E.E.S., Ery-Tab, Ilotycin,
Eryc, PCE, Ilosone, others); or
- fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox),
or ketoconazole (Nizoral).
The mdrugs in the above list may interact with
Lipitor and directly effects the muscles. Before
taking Lipitor, it is advised to inform the doctor
if one is taking drugs that are used for cholesterol
reduction.
This is because it might throw the effect of
Lipitor off balance or have a severe reaction.
Drugs to be on the lookout for are cholestyramine
(Questran) or colestipol (Colestid); or digoxin
(Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), as these are known to interact
with Lipitor.
If one uses these drugs, a doctor may have to
make an adjustment in dosage or recommend special
monitoring during Lipitor treatment.
In addition to these drugs interacting with
Lipitor, there may be others as well. |
