Health standards in the US are rated as highest in the world. This is due to the importance given to the general health of the public.
However, this emphasis has gone overboard with some people as they take health in terms of eating more. This leads to excessive weight gain and obesity. Obesity refers to the excessive fat accumulated in the body and manner in which they put on weight. However, later they are unable to reduce this weight when needed.

- 70% cardiovascular disease
- 30% gall bladder surgeries
- 42% breast and colon cancer diagnosed among obese individuals
- 26% obese individuals have hypertension
From these statistics, it can be seen that the situation is severe with many people falling prey to diseases because of obesity.
Whether obesity can really be pinpointed as a major cause of these diseases is another matter. However, it can be asserted that they are in some way related to obesity.
Childhood Obesity Statistics
There are large number of American children who are suffering from obesity and overweight. Many of the school going children suffer from obesity due to overeating and taking in fried and junk food. These childhood obesity statistics are very alarming. It is known that more than 25% white children and 33% of African-American and Hispanic children overweight.
In addition to this, hospital expenses in relation to child obesity have gone up to more than $127 Million.
It is clear from these statistics that obesity is a major problem in the country and requires immediate attention. A child suffering with this condition is facing grave danger and there is a possibility that with growing numbers of such children, the nation has significant number of its youth leading very unhealthy lives. |
