Laboratories, Inc., (BRL) had announced that
it has settled the litigation that was pending
about Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc., for
the protection of patent of Ortho Tri-Cyclen
that was the patent of Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical,
Inc. Now Barr laboratories have started shipping
their product that is the generic version of Ortho
Tri-Cyclen manufactured by Ortho-McNeil
Pharmaceutical, Inc. the generic version will
be sold under the Tri-Sprintec trademark.
It is said that
Barr laboratories became able to enter into
the market three months earlier because of the
terms of the settlement with Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical.
The terms of the settlement had permitted the
Barr laboratories for the introduction of the
generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen on December
29, 2003.
Barr laboratories have received
significant financial opportunity as their Tri-Sprintec
oral contraceptive product has been approved
and launched. The current portfolio of their
generic oral contraceptive has been increased
to 18 products that are able for the competition
in the $ 3.1 billion contraceptive marketplace.
This increase is also due to the approval and
launching of the Tri-Sprintec oral contraceptive
drug.

Ortho
Tri-Cyclen is considered as a regimen of
oral contraceptives in which three different
tablets are included in combinations of ethinyl
estradiol and norgestimate. This drug is used
for the prevention of pregnancy. Women who do
not want to be pregnant electively use this
product. A packet of the product consists of
28-tablets. The annual sales of the product
for the twelve months that were ending in October
2003 was found to be approximately $ 716 million.
