Lining With Migraines


Migraine is a severe headache type that can disrupt your life and one headache can put everything on hold. According to an estimate, women suffer from migraine more than men. Generally, it begins as a dull ache and later develops into an intense throbbing and pulsating at the temples as well as on sides of the head. Pain is often accompanied by nausea and aversion to light.

  • Missing meals
  • Intense physical activity
  • Change in sleeping habits

How Can Migraines Be Treated

There are two ways by which migraines can be treated. One way is to take the medication as soon as you feel a migraine coming on. This way the intensity of migraine can be lessened. The other way is to take medicines to prevent headaches before they occur.

Medicines For Migraine

NonPrescribed Medicines

Some common non prescribed medicines can be taken to relive migraine. The include aspirin, Tylenol, Excedrin Migraine, Ibuprofen, and Motrin. If the pain persists or the migraines occur frequently then doctor should be consulted.

Prescribed Medicines

Severe or recurring pain needs physicians help and prescribed medicine. A medicine called Ergostat is effective if taken alone or when combined with other medicines depending on pain intensity. Migranal is related to ergostat and helps.
Other medicines include Imitrex, zomig, Replax and Froya.
These medicines can be habit forming and should be used with caution.

How To Avoid Migraines

With a little caution and care, it is possible to avoid migraine

  • Try to get full sleep and rest
  • Avoid going to loud place
  • Avoid taking too much tension and stress
  • Avoid foods that bring on migraine

What to do when migraines occurs

  • Lie down to rest in a dark and quiet room
  • Put a wet cloth or compressor on forehead
  • Put pressure on your temples or scalp by massaging.
  • Sleep, meditate or listen to soft music during the headache

Living With Migraines

Living with migraines is not easy, however, with proper care and planning, it can be avoided and a pain free life can be enjoyed.

  • Try to keep your life free from stress and work load
  • Try to keep a record of what you eat so it can be avoided if it triggers migraine
  • Learn to pace yourself by different methods like yoga or therapy
  • Contact your doctor if you face any other problems such as fainting, difficulty in speech or stiffness in neck.

With the help of medicines and learning what steps to take when they occur, migraines can be handled and living with them becomes easy.
