Pregnant women start consuming practically any kind of food they can possibly get their hands on. Controlling extra pounds during the pregnancy is always a worry, but cannot be prevented.
In other words, during pregnancy a woman's diet may not be controlled and lead to weight gain. Overweight or obesity, as it is called among pregnant mothers is the result of such incomprehensible eating behavior. Controlling Weight Gain by Means of Healthy Diet
Pregnant mothers should not be discouraged by weight gain. Instead, they should follow simple high-protein diets. Overweight mothers should choose healthy diets, consisting of fruits, vegetables, fish, whole grain, extra virgin olive oil and pasteurized dairy foods bread. In addition they should also make it point to consult a nutritionist or doctor who could provide them with a few prenatal supplements. It is best to control weight gain through healthy diet.
A diet consisting of fruits and vegetables, such as cauliflower, okra, whole grain bread, tomatoes and an assortment of vegetables should be eaten by the overweight mothers. On the other hand, they should restrict themselves to eating rich calorie based foods, such as cookies, pastries, cake, carbonated drinks, sodas and fast foods.
Controlling Weight Gain Through Exercise
An over weight pregnant mother can also control her weight gain by engaging in some sort of exercise or physical activity. Care and precautions should be undertaken before joining an exercise program.
Getting regular exercise during pregnancy may help you achieve your recommended weight goal. However, before embarking on any exercise program during pregnancy, check with your doctor especially if you haven’t been exercising regularly before pregnancy.
Things to Avoid During Pregnancy Weight Gain
Overweight mothers tend to feel weight conscious about themselves. Upon gaining a few extra pounds, they starve themselves, by skipping their regular day-to-day meals for a number of days or possibly weeks. This is definitely not the right approach towards controlling weight gain.
Some things to keep in mind if a pregnant woman gains weight:
- Do not skip meals
- Do not attempt exercises without first consulting your doctor
- Do not take too much alcoholic drinks or sodas
- Avoid too much high fat food
According to doctors, the solution to the problem of weight gain for pregnant mothers is to switch to a healthy diet, which could provide plenty of nutrients and fiber. Thus, controlling weight gain during pregnancy is just a matter of eating healthy and doing regular light exercise. |
