Eating the Right Kinds of Food during Pregnancy
Pregnancy Does Not Mean Eating Double
Eating for two during pregnancy, does not necessarily mean that the mother should eat meal fit for two or eat a double meal. The important thing here for the pregnant mother is, to develop a healthy eating habits based on the right kinds of food which could contribute to the betterment of both the mother and child.
Just because women gain weight during pregnancy, it does not in the least mean that they will have to consume a greater amount of food. Drinking 7 to 10 glasses of water per day, accompanied by rich organic juices would be ample enough to provide the pregnant mother with the essential nutrients.
Eating the Right Foods in Pregnancy
A pregnant woman need not necessarily stuff herself with extra food, just because she feels she needs to provide food to her unborn child. Some mothers may feel an urge to eat more as they may think that they are depriving their baby from getting a full meal. However, eating extra does not necessarily mean that your needs for calories have doubled.
Instead, focusing on an appetite, which is rich in the necessary nutrients, vitamins, proteins and minerals, would be sufficient enough to contribute to the safe and healthy growth of the baby. Opting for a variety of fruits, ranging from oranges, bananas and strawberries, together with whole wheat bread and pasteurized milk, would be a healthy choice for pregnant mothers.
The Recommended Calorie Limit During Pregnancy
During pregnancy, based on the height and weight of the individual, a healthy pregnant mother may tend to gain an additional 25 to 35 pounds. In light of this she will need additional 300 calories per day, which is normal for pregnant women.
Keeping this in mind, it does not necessarily mean that the pregnant women should increase the amount of fatty foods, such as burgers, French fries, pizzas, cake and chocolate pastries. Instead, the increased calorie intake could be effortlessly compromised with a diet consisting of fruits and vegetables, fish, proteins, organic juices and wheat bread and bran.
Eating the Right Nutrients to Take During Pregnancy
During pregnancy, there is a growing need to consume more nutrients rather than calories. This however does not mean that a mother should eat extra. Rather, she should concentrate on a diet rich in:
- Calcium
- Folate
- Proteins
- Iron
- Vitamin D
Calcium, when taken regularly, helps to build the baby’s bones. An intake of proteins is necessary for pregnant mothers, as it helps in the development of the fetus and the neural tube of the baby. Folate intake during pregnancy helps in completely developing the central nervous system of the baby and the spinal cord.
Instead of eating excess foods and gaining extra weight, it is better that pregnant women take the right kind of diet based on healthy nutrients which are beneficial for both her and her baby. |
