When Zocor Should Not Be Taken


One who takes Zocor (simvastatin) should be aware of the following, as these are the most important:

  1. Zocor (simvastatin) should not be taken without a physician’s consultation, especially if one has liver disease,
  2. Also, one should not take….if one has: kidney disease, a chronic muscular disease, or have a blood disorder.
  3. A person’s liver can be damaged by both Zocori and alcohol. In view of this, one should consult his or her physician if Zocori is the appropriate cholesterol lowering agent to take in view of one’s alcohol consumption.
  4. Zocor (simvastatin) should not be taken during pregnancy or even if one is planning a pregnancy. During breast-feeding as well it is considered risky to take Zocor.
  5. One is advised to see a doctor immediately if s/he experiences unusual muscle pain, tenderness, especial if accompanied by fever, discoloration of the skin and eyes and symptoms of flue.
  6. Zocor is not recommended for children (Zocor, 2004)
